Day 82 – Laughter
By Renee Bodkin
Friday and Laughter.
I’ll take it.
I was bestowed with the fortunate opportunity to get the job of “prepping” Sebastian, Stephen, and Patrick for their Ad Altare Dei Board of Review. We, the parents, just wanted to make sure that they had: A- completed their workbooks and B- retained some of the information they had learned over the course of 7 months of learning and preparation for their Boy Scout Catholic emblem. You know, make sure they would present themselves well and answer appropriately (even if they didn’t know “the answer”). We, as parents, worry that they’ll just blurt something out without thinking. So, it was my job to make sure they were prepared to be thoughtful in their responses. I couldn’t teach them all they needed to know… I could prep them to be polite and such.
And then… LAUGHTER ENSUES. What more would you expect from two 12 year olds and a 13 year old! They just cracked me up! They are good boys. Fortunately. And they are intelligent boys. Fortunately. And they are comedians (in their own head’s). Unfortunately – and fortunately. I had a few good laughs both with them and at them. And for that I am grateful. (And in case you were concerned Stephen and Barbara, they ARE prepared and they WILL do fine. I made quite sure of that.) Boys are funny. And speak in foreign tongues about subjects unbeknownst to this silly mom! Yes, I was content spending my evening with a bunch of boys!
