Friends – Day 16
by Renée Bodkin
It’s late. I knew I would get days like this. Philip told me I should “pre-write” some blogs for days like this but at this point I want them written from my heart and gut on each specific day. So, that being said… it’s 10:36 PM. We just got home from a fantastic evening at our friends’ house and here I am.
But if I had pre-written my blog… I wouldn’t be able to express the gratitude I have right now.
Our good friends – the Lewis family – from Scouts invited us to dinner at their new house. We’ve known each other for about 3 years now but we are always socializing “on the go”. This was a great opportunity for us to just relax, share a meal, let the kids – all 8 of them – just play and have fun, and us – the adults – actually talk without the time constraint of getting out the door or wrangling kids.
I am grateful for these friends and this time spent. It was nice to talk about homeschooling. It was nice to discuss meal planning, parenting, and just life. It was nice to learn that Christina has just as much difficulty with the crazy Time Warner remote control as I do. And that we share an addiction to Cherry Coke (mine’s Cherry Coke Zero and I’m proud – kinda – to say I’m getting a handle on it slowly but that’s a discussion for another day). Hmm… the things you learn when you can just sit down and talk. It was nice to see the boys playing Nerf guns together, running up the front stairs and down the back stairs and through the living room laughing and chasing each other up and down and around the house. Sebastian and Johnathan playing air hockey. Lucian running from the lone girl, Jeanetta – a mere 6 years old – who was teasing him and saying she was going to kiss him. They all had a blast.
I’d share pictures but I actually left my phone in my purse and didn’t touch it for 4 plus hours. You’ll have to imagine it. 8 kids ranging in age from 13 to 4 just playing together and having fun. Not one tear. Not one fight. And us, the moms and dads, just enjoying company and sharing stories, experiences, and laughter.
This is what it’s all about.
This is a picture of Sebastian and Johnathan on a hike in the fall.
Thank You Lewis Family for a nice evening.
PS…. Challenge met. 11:10 PM and I’m clicking publish. 16th day of gratitude – done. 🙂
