Opportunities – Day 17
by Renée Bodkin
This post of gratitude is for opportunities.
As Sebastian prepared for a busy weekend of camping, more camping, and then a getaway to Great Wolf Lodge, I realized how grateful I am for opportunities. We teach our boys to work hard, be respectful, live the 12 points of the Scout Law (more on that later), and appreciate what they have.
They know there are many kids who have more than them (Disney vacations, expensive clothes, iStuff, etc) but they also know there are also many kids who have much less than them. But what they do have – are opportunities – and for that I am grateful. And I believe – they too are grateful.
Opportunities to grow.
Opportunities to experience new things.
Opportunities to build friendships.
Opportunities to learn.
Opportunities to have fun.
Opportunities for adventures.
Opportunities to build leadership skills.
I am truly grateful that I can give my boys these opportunities.
This three day weekend Sebastian is off to Camp Schoelkopf with his home Boy Scout troop. They are cabin camping, sledding, cooking, and exploring nature at a beautiful camp.
Next, he’ll be picked up by one of our good friends and taken to another Boy Scout camping experience at Heart to Heart Morgans Horse Farm where they’ll spend the night then spend a day earning 2 merit badges – Horsemanship and Animal Science.
Finally, he’ll come home only to jump in the car with Dad to join his brothers and I at Great Wolf Lodge for our “annual family winter getaway” with my sisters, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and my mom for some water park fun!
All in one weekend.
