Today is My Day – Day 111
By Renee Bodkin
April 26th. Today is “MY” day. My birthday. 41 years old. I am grateful for this day. How can one not be grateful to see another birthday?! So often we take our life and existence for granted. So today I took a moment and really reflected on this blessing of another year. God, I hope to live for many, many more years but today, I am grateful for this year.
I reflected on the past year. My last birthday – the big one – 40. Philip went above and beyond and gave me a surprise party with friends and family from all walks of my life. A video that will be cherished forever. Memories that mean the world to me.
So today in comparison to last year was the complete opposite. But… equally as special, just in a different way. I shared my day today with Philip and the boys. That’s it. And that was okay. I woke up to Lucian in the kitchen preparing a surprise breakfast for me. Hot tea (lukewarm), vanilla yogurt, buttered toast (cold), and a hearty bowl of oatmeal (blech… I think he prepared real oatmeal like instant should be prepared, it was nasty… just don’t tell him that). Homemade cards and a name place card rounded out my special breakfast by Lucian. We had a relaxing (translate LAZY) morning. Then ventured out for a family adventure. A stop at Firth Jewelers resulted in a new Wind & Fire bracelet. It’s beautiful. My collection of these bracelets is growing. My mom gave me one yesterday for my birthday, too. A quick lunch before we surprised the boys with a trip to the movies. They’ve been talking about seeing Captain America all spring break so today was the day. The movie did not disappoint. The boys loved it. I thought it was pretty good. Keeping in mind that I am a fan of these movies by default because I have 3 boys who love this sort of movie. My appreciation for superheroes and their adventures comes from watching my boys marvel at these stories and adventures!
After the movie, we debated going out to eat or just going home and quietly enjoying dinner. We did the latter. We stopped at Wegmans for some yummy Wegmans subs and had dinner at home.
That was my day. I am grateful for and Blessed to have Philip and my boys.
